All Functions of the scx-4725fn worked right out of the 2nd box. The Dell router communictated with the printer.
XP accepted the printer on a network. Do check the box because the first one I got was banged up.
Do not throw away the box. Amazon quickly had another new printer to me in two days. My only complaint is the instructions are pictures on a paper sheet with 8 other languages.
It was confusing for me. There is a Postscript CD which supposedly has all the instructions. The printing, fax, copying and scan work fine. Higly recommend this network printer to anyone who needs a multifunction printer. My main reason for the poor overall stars is that although Mac support is promised on the box, the web site, etc., that support is limited to a Photoshop plugin and whatever the OS provides. Want a new driver from Samsung?

Their web site does not even MENTION the Mac. There's an 'open source guide' which is just a bunch of copyright material. The printer is very good - essentially the $60 Samsung laser printer, which seems pretty reliable and durable.
It comes with a 'cheater' (half empty from the start) toner cartridge that is easy to refill using any number of kits (I did that and it didn't require any break-in) to assure profits on a printer that is probably sold at or below cost. The fax machine is OK but sensitive to line issues and Heaven knows what else, because it only seems to work on 2/3 of the other fax machines out there. The scanner is OK but nothing to write home about. The Mac scanner plugin is el stinko and the Windows plugin seems similar, from what I've seen, but at least Windows users get ScanThrough. The cheapest of Canon scanners (LiDE 20 at last look) provides far better results, but the scanner is fairly fast, so if you want quick and dirty this will do it. Obviously this device doesn't print in color. That's not a drawback, it's a design spec.
The photocopier works pretty well and the auto document feeder is OK. I've had it for over a year now and haven't had a feed problem but I don't use the ADF often. The controls aren't great but they're not awful either.

I bought this machine for a small office and am not able to:. Scan documents (not able to save scanned files on network computers). Copy correctly from A4 to A4 (prints in landscape instead of portrait) Faxing works sporadically, printing over wifi has long delay. In addition, the screen that lets you configure the options isn't back-lit so you can't easily see and understand what to configure. So far 2 computer engineers spent a total of 5 hours trying to get it to work and failed.
I regret buying this printer and recommend you try other vendors / models. I bought this one because I am tired of going out every time when I need to copy or scan something. With a machine like this at home, I can scan everything and keep a digital version of everything. This machine does exactly what I want. It took me a while to figure out the best way to scan documents. Use Adobe Acrobat (not free Acrobat Reader). There is a menu called 'scan to pdf.'

Much better than I expected. You can also do everything using Samsung' software called 'SmarThru 4' that comes with the CD. It works, but in a very slow and painful way.Samsung, get some real coders. Another complain is that the paper tray is too tight. I will give it 5 star if the tray can go 1 millimeter wider than what it is now. No complains on Copying and Printing. Never tried Faxing.
The start-up noise does not bother me at all. The Print Quality is great but Windows networking in VIsta is flawed, going from a Adtran Switch to the 2Wire wireless router, when trying to print states unable to print network down, on the printer LCD states printing and does not, you have to reboot system then it prints. I re-installed software and updated it and the same result. You cannot scan either it will not connect states unable to connect and gives error the software 'Scanner device not responding Please check if device is turned on' It is!! It copies well. Other printers work well on this setup. I was happy with this all in one until I found out that if you scan a 10 page document to pdf, it will open 10 seperate pdf documents.

Hence forcing you to do the work of combining all the documents into one pdf. That's annoying! Does anyone know of a setting that can be changed so that it will automatically put all the scans from a 'single' 'mutli page' scan into 'one' document? Plus it doesn't scan across the network. That's annoying and it sux.
The upside is that it's a laser printer. Prints fast and faxes fast and clean. No probems with Printing, Copying and faxing. Scanning is missing a few bolts.
