I upgraded to the latest version of Lync for Mac 2011 and now have the following two issues: 1) Audio, I can no longer hear anyone and they can't hear me. I can use other applications just fine so it's not a computer audio issue. The Audio shows a red exclamation mark when I am in a meeting/call and no setting changes will make it work. 2) I no longer can see the emoticons. The button is there and the box displays but no emoji's show. When I scroll over it, it looks like the emojis are there but I can't select.
Also, if i use the:) symbols instead - they are deleted when I hit send. Has anyone else seen these issues and how did they resolve them? I am debating doing a clean uninstall of Lync and then reinstalling it again. Hi, I have exactly the same issue with audio after upgrade to 14.4.1.
Clean uninstall as described at the link above and reinstall after that did not help. Now I can't attend meetings at all - nobody can her me and I can't hear anybody. Clean uninstall, reboot, and reinstalling did not help as well.
What's worse, I even tried to put back the older version and it still didn't help. It's like the 14.4.1 version messed up something on my Mac Lync-wise.
Audio works normally in all other apps, such as Skype etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I already spent hours trying to fix this. This also happened to me, and all attempts to uninstall/reinstall didn't fix the problem. I had a prior issue where an earlier Lync update broke conversation history save, and uninstall/reinstall didn't fix that either. Microsoft REALLY needs to work on repairing broken software installs if they're going to be so sloppy on testing their software.
So, 3 weeks ago, due mainly to this problem (but also another Microsoft issue: I accidentally hit enter on a OneDrive for Business sign-in page, accepting the wrong client cert, and that broke OneDrive for business, which would never sync again), I decided to completely wipe my iMac primary disk and reinstall OS X El Capitan from scratch. This finally fixed Office, Lync and OneDrive. Until today, when Lync just stopped working again. Now, when I attempt to start it, it just crashes on start, no dialog as to why, and a 0-byte log file is created.
I work for one of the largest hardware vendors in the world, and EVERYONE hates Lync, it's so buggy and unreliable. It's a running joke in meetings when people are late, like 'the dog ate my homework'. I don't know why Microsoft can't seem to get this program stable.
People depend on it. At a minimum, it should not be necessary to uninstall before a reinstall.

A reinstall should insure that all files needed are present, and any files which IT HAD TO INSTALL at some point which could break a new install are removed. Including in Keychain or buried somewhere outside /Applications. I now see so many OS X Apps which are 'just the Application' - download and drop into /Applications, and when the app starts, it creates any other files it needs in Preferences or Library.
Why is it so hard for Microsoft to do what so many other smaller companies can do? Forgive the tirade.
Tired of Lync causing me TEN TIMES as many problems as any other application I've used regularly, Mac or Windows. I wish I knew what was going wrong. I will try the standard uninstall/reinstall dance yet again. But, it's discouraging that this problem happened only 3 weeks after a completely clean reinstall of the latest OS X El Capitan - I can't imagine a more friendly environment to any testing which Microsoft had to do, yet it still broke.
Someone there in QA is just not doing their job. I share your frustration and lack of ability to resolve.

I even went into a Microsoft store and got their expert assistance. All they did was to uninstall and reinstall - with no luck.
They wanted to keep my machine overnight to back it up and then do a clean setup which they still weren't sure was going to work. Needless to say, I did not go that route. I finally setup a VM, installed Windows 10 and have Skype for Business working there, audio and all - so definitely not a hardware issue. Now I start up the VM each day, open skype and work between the environments. What a pain for something that they say should work on my Mac.
